"I Want to Witness, But What Do I Say about Golf?”
The hardest part about witnessing is the transition from an everyday conversation onto the Gospel track. One way to do it is through relating the Gospel to objects around you like Jesus did many times in Matthew 13. These object evangelism icebreakers will train you how to transition conversations onto the Gospel track around golf. Jesus is coming soon, so use loving boldness and be compassionate. Then be led by the Spirit using whatever method. You may prophesy or pray for healing, etc. To help pull them in, after the “…”, there is an invitation to be saved.
Bogey – I did not make par. Sigh. I’m glad that my salvation is not based on my good works or my being perfect. It is a free gift based on grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That means I can take as many strokes as I want and still win or have eternal life...So is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior? Eph.2:8-9
Golf – As I think about golf, it reminds me of how a person can receive eternal life. The holes remind me of the holes that were made in Jesus’ hands and feet when He was nailed to the cross and crucified for our sins so that all that believe in Him could have eternal life. So the golf ball reminds me of the unbeliever who has not received Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior yet. The only way to win the game in golf or the only way to God is through those holes… Do you know how much Jesus loves you? Would you like to pray to receive Him as Lord?
Golf Tee - As I drive (or as I watch him drive) this golf tee in, it reminds me of the nails that were driven into Jesus’ hands and feet on the cross…That one act shows how much He truly loves you because He willingly shed His holy blood and died on the cross for the sins of you and me so that those who believe in Him could be reconciled to God and receive eternal life…Have you ever made Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior?Hole-in-One - A hole-in-one reminds me of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, because He is the “Holy One” who is perfect and without sin. So He willingly received the holes in his hands and feet when they nailed Him to the cross. He died for our sins, so that those who receive Jesus as Lord could be reconciled to God & have eternal life… Is Jesus your Lord?
On the Green - I am so happy that the ball made it onto the green! It reminds me of Psalm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures…” So is Jesus the Savior and the Shepherd of your own life?
Sand Trap – That sand trap reminds me of the traps where I have been in my own life. You know, those hard places of going through trials and tribulations that make me think, “God, don’t you care about me?” And yet I know the Bible says in Psalm 139:17 “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand.” So I know that God really does care. I just have to trust in Him and His ability to get me out of those traps. Actually God got us out of the biggest eternal sand trap of all – the trap of hell. John 3:16 says that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. ”Would you like to pray to receive Jesus as your Lord?
Scorecard – I used to get really depressed when I lost until I became a Christian. Then I came to realize that my true worth and value is based on the price that was paid for me - the blood of Jesus Christ, which is worth more than all the gold and silver in the world. And having eternal life is the true prize for all eternity and so I am always a winner…Are you a winner? Have you ever won that prize?
Salvation Prayer: “Father, I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. I repent of my sins. Jesus, I ask You to forgive me and come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank You for saving me from hell and giving me eternal life in heaven, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
