Scriptures to Inspire Compassion for the Lost

Jesus Christ's last commandment was to go and fulfill the Great Commission.

In Mark 16:15 Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  And these signs will follow those who believe:  In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”   This was not a suggestion, but a commandment

Jesus said  in John 14:15,  “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”    And Jesus also said in John 15:14,  “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”    I pray that everyone will know the joy of being a friend of God.

Do you need to pray for God to help you get motivated to witness to the lost?   David prayed this prayer to God.  You can pray it at well:
"God, Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by your generous Spirit, Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,  And sinners shall be converted to You.  Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness."  (Psalm 51:12)

Jesus Had Such Compassion for the Lost

Matthew 9:35-36 says  Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. When Jesus saw the multitudes, “He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.”  Then He said to His disciples, “the Harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”  That was Jesus' prayer.   So I pray right now:  "Lord, I pray for many more laborers to be raised up,  even through this website - www.traintracts.com."

Matthew 14:14 says,  “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.”    We as Christians need to pray in faith and lay hands on the sick in the name of Jesus Christ, expecting God to use us as well (James 5:14-15)

Luke 19:10  The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.                                   .

Jude 22  “Keep yourselves in the love of God…and on some have compassion, making a distinction, but  others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”          He was saying here that most of the time we witness through our compassion and kindness, but to others we witness as if we were snatching them from eternal fire.  'To hate the garment defiled by the sin"  means that we hate the sin, but we need to love the sinner.

Acts 4:29 -31  When Paul was being persecuted he prayed, "Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to your servants with all boldness they may speak your word, by stretching our Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus."  and when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Do Not Let the Unbelievers' Blood Be Upon Your Hands

Ezekiel 3:16 - 21  Now it came to pass at the end of seven days that the word of the Lord came to me saying,  "Son of man,  I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:  When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.  Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.  Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die;  because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand.  Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul."

People think of sin as something that you did wrong. Yes that is right.  But sin is also something that you did not do that you really should have done.  Fearing what people think will keep you from witnessing.  But if you witness to them, you can help keep them out of hell.  If you do not witness to a friend or loved one, the Bible says that their blood will be on your hands.  In other words, if they go to hell, you will be guilty as well for not witnessing to them..

King David knew this truth.  In Psalm 51:12 he prayed,  "God, Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by your generous Spirit, Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,  And sinners shall be converted to You.  Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness."  (Ps. 51:12)  "Paul knew this truth from Ezekiel as well.   In Acts 18:5-6  Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ, But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them - "Your blood be upon you own heads;  I am clean.  From now on I will go to the Gentiles."

So when you are watching a movie that is violent with blood, remember Ezekiel 3:20-21 and witness to the unbeliever in some way...

All people are individually responsible to God, but Christians have a special responsibility to warn unbelievers of the consequences of rejecting God and not receiving Jesus as their Lord.  If we fail to do this, God will hold us responsible for what happens to them.  We should not take witnessing lightly.  It is a matter of eternal life and death for multitudes of people who are still in the valley of decision.

Other Scriptures to Motivate You to Witness with Compassionate Boldness:

Romans 1:16   For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it s written, "The just shall live by faith."

John 9:4  Jesus said to His disciples "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work."
