“I Want to Witness, But What Do I Say at the Movies?"
Many times the hardest part about witnessing is the transition from an everyday conversation onto the Gospel track. If you do not know how to do this, you will not be witnessing at all. One way to turn the conversation it is through relating the Gospel to objects around you like Jesus did many times in Matthew 13. These object evangelism icebreakers will train you how to turn conversations onto the Gospel track. Jesus is coming soon, so use loving boldness and be compassionate. Then be led by the Spirit using whatever method. You may prophesy or pray for healing, etc. To help pull them in, after the “…”, there is an invitation to be saved.
Now you can simply say: “As we go to this movie, it reminds me of what happened in Aurora, CO in that movie theater where those 12 people were shot and killed by that crazy guy. I want to know, if that happened here, would you make it to heaven?” And then see what they say.
Also there are so many good Christian movies out right now, so the movie itself preaches the Gospel in some way. When you go with an unbelieving friend to a movie that does not have a Christian theme, if you listen to the Holy Spirit, I believe He will still give you a creative way to witness to your unbelieving friend. As you watch the movie, think about the characters, the plot and what they said and did. You can say:
* “In the scene when that actor/actress did this or that… it reminded of something that Jesus Christ would do…”
* "When I saw that scene, it reminded me of this _______ aspect of the Gospel….”
Candy - This candy reminds me of how sweet it is to trust in Jesus, The Bible says in Psalm 34:8 – “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.” When I prayed to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord, I received eternal life in heaven. Jesus is the sweet Savior of my soul. Have you ever put your trust in Jesus?
Popcorn – This delicious popcorn starts out as useless popcorn kernels. The kernels are usually kept in a bag away from the light, which reminds me of unbelievers living in the kingdom of darkness. But when the light and truth and love of Jesus comes upon them, the fire of God touches them and there is a POP of revelation in the spirit! Their hearts pop and change as they pray to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In that salvation prayer, they pop right on over into the Kingdom of God and become light and fluffy and white as new. It is a delicious transformation! I love popcorn! …So are you like a useless kernel or are you like white popcorn? … Would you like to pray to receive Jesus as your Savior and have eternal life?
Soda Pop - I once saw this cashier wearing a tie that said: ”Knock soda to the ground.” When I asked her about it, she said that pop and soda were “having a war” as to what carbonated drinks would be called! Whether you say the first part of the word or the last part of the word, it is all the same. It is like the name Jesus Christ. Whether you say the first part "Jesus" or the second part, "Christ," it is the same meaning and carries the same power. You know what I mean?
Ticket When I give my ticket to the movie attendant, I gain entrance to see the movie that I want to see. It reminds me of salvation through Jesus Christ which is my ticket to heaven. That is the place I want to see and be for all eternity. The best part is - it is a free gift...Jesus loves you so much…So have you ever received His free gift of eternal life in heaven? Then pray this prayer after me.
Waiting in Line - This line is taking forever…It reminds me of eternity, which is a very long time to be spent in the wrong place…. Do you know where you will spend eternity?
Salvation Prayer: “Father, I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. I repent of my sins. Jesus, I ask You to forgive me and come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank You for saving me from hell and giving me eternal life in heaven, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
