“I Want to Witness, But What Do I Say around Coffee?”
Many times the hardest part about witnessing is the transition from an everyday conversation onto the Gospel track. If you do not know how to do this, you will not be witnessing at all. One way to turn the conversation it is through relating the Gospel to objects around you like Jesus did many times in Matthew 13. These object evangelism icebreakers will train you how to turn conversations onto the Gospel track. Jesus is coming soon, so use loving boldness and be compassionate. Then be led by the Spirit using whatever method. You may prophesy or pray for healing, etc. To help pull them in, after the “…”, there is an invitation to be saved.
Coffee – The black color of coffee sometimes reminds me of sin. But it says in Romans 14:17 that the Kingdom of God is not meat & drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. So God is not looking at my coffee. He is looking at my heart to see if I am born again or not.
Cream – As I put this white cream into my coffee, it reminds me of a scripture in the Bible (Isaiah 1:18) that says that God will make my sins as white as snow…. All of us have sinned. Our black sin separates us from God, but when a person receives Jesus Christ as their Savior, their sins are paid for through Jesus Christ’s shed blood on the cross. Then, in God’s eyes, the new believer becomes white as cream and will have eternal life in heaven.
French Vanilla Creamer - I only know one phrase in French, but I sure do like this French Vanilla creamer. The only phrase I know is: “Jesus Tem” (it sounds like: “Juhzee Tem”) which means: Jesus loves you. So do you know how much Jesus loves you? …Have you ever prayed to receive Him as Lord?
Lukewarm – I hate lukewarm coffee. God didn’t like it either…It says in Revelation 3:16: “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew you out of my mouth.” But He was talking about lukewarm Christians. They are the ones that never witness to anyone about the love of Jesus Christ. I am not one of them…. Do you know how much Jesus loves you? Have you ever prayed to receive Him as your Lord and Savior?
Making Coffee –The ingredients to make coffee remind me of how a person can receive eternal life. God made man from the dust of the ground. (Ps. 103:14). So that dust reminds me of coffee grinds. Andto make coffee, you need a coffee maker and that reminds me of God, who is the Maker of heaven and earth. Then you need water to pour into it and water reminds me of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for my sins, because He referred to Himself as The Living Water in John 7:38. To become a Christian, a person (the dust), must repent of their sins and pray to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord. With this decision, the Coffee Maker is turned “on” and the Living Water pours over the dust of their hearts making them new creations in Christ, just like fresh brewed coffee. 2 Corin 5:17
Stir – As I stir this coffee, it reminds me of how some people like to stir up strife in the office and falsely accuse people of wrongdoing. Sigh. But as I stir this coffee, I forgive them and pray like King David prayed: “Lord, stir up Yourself and awake to vindicate me…” (Psalm 35:23). That is one great thing about knowing Jesus as your Lord. Vengeance is His and He will repay.
Sugar - This sugar reminds me of how sweet it is to trust in Jesus. The Bible says in Psalm 34:8 “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.” I’m so thankful He loves me…Have you ever put your trust in Jesus?
Salvation Prayer: “Father, I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. I repent of my sins. Jesus, I ask You to forgive me and come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Thank You for saving me from hell and giving me eternal life in heaven, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
