“I Want to Witness, But What Do I Say at a Funeral?
Many times the hardest part about witnessing isthe transition from an everyday conversation onto the Gospel track.  If you do not know how to do this, you will not be witnessing at all. One way to turn the conversation it is through relating the Gospel to objects around you like Jesus did many times in Matthew 13.  These object evangelism icebreakers will train you how to turn conversations onto the Gospel track at a Funeral.  Jesus is coming soon, so use loving boldness and be compassionate. Then be led by the Spirit using whatever method. You may prophesy or pray for healing, etc.  To help pull them in, after the “…”, there is an invitation to be saved.

Brother/Sister died  - Jesus said in Matt. 12:50:  “Whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother and sister and mother.” The first step to doing God’s will is to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord. Then He will be like a brother to you and will also bless you with brothers and sisters in Christ.

  - As I look at this coffin, it represents closure –that this person is no longer a part of my life.  But I know that when one door closes, another door opens.  And out of death comes new life, new hope and new vision. When God gives us vision, He wants us to write it down and run with it.  This new life begins with Jesus Christ…Have you ever received Him as your Lord?

Father died – I know that you will miss your father, but if you ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord, then God will become your Heavenly Father and He will adopt you (Rom. 8:15).  And also Ps. 27:10 says, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.”…. Would you like to pray to be adopted into God’s family and receive God as your Heavenly Father?  He will surely carry you.

Flowers  - You will go through a season of grieving, but remember that God is with you.  As you look at these beautiful flowers remember Isaiah 61:3: God will give you “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.”  His love will comfort you…Have you ever received Jesus as the lover of your soul?

Husband died -I know you are sad about your husband.  I know how much you will miss him, but God has not abandoned you. The Bible says in Isaiah 54:5:  “Do not fear forYour Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name.”….Would you like to receive Jesus as your Lord and also as Your husband today?  Also read Isaiah 41:10

  - The Bible says in 1 Peter1:3-4  that because of Christ’s  resurrection from the dead, we have an inheritance incorruptible reserved in heaven for all eternity for those who believe in Him…So do you have that eternal inheritance?

Mother died – I know you miss your mother, but God will be with you and He will comfort you just like your mother did. Isaiah 66:13 says, “As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you –“ In John 14:16 Jesus said, “I will pray to the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever...” Have you ever prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior and as the Comforter of your soul?

Tissues  – Here, have a tissue.   The Bible says in Matt 5:4, “Blessed are they that mourn, for the shall be comforted.”  God will comfort you during this time.  Don’t be mad at Him for allowing your loved one to die.  There are many things that we just do not understand.  So just trust in Him and receive His love.  He wants you to know the height and the depth and the width and the length of the love that He has for you….Have you ever received the Lover of your soul into your heart to be your Lord?     Eph. 3:17-18.

Salvation Prayer:  “Father, I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead.  I repent of my sins.  Jesus, I ask You to forgive me and come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior.   Fill me with the Holy Spirit.  Thank You for saving me from hell and giving me eternal life in heaven, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
